bringer of sorrow

The acquisition is always the hardest part of murder. Like chess, there is always a misinterpretation capable of turning over the advantage. There is always someone that saw a car, a person that heard a sound or smelled a smell. The cardinal rule of snooping is simple. Look as though you’re supposed to be there and always put things back exactly as they were before you leave. The cardinal rule of acquisition is most often misinterpreted as simply, “don’t get caught”. Which is fair, not getting caught is necessary. The goal is to be invisible. Not to be taken literally of course, that would be impossible. It means to blend in. You can’t simply snatch a person off the sidewalk and expect for no one see you, they have to come willingly. The idea is to not be remembered but also to be impressionable enough to acquire. How does one convince a stranger to trust? I like to feign innocence, it suits me. I am the genuine smile, the small build, the intellectual with glasses recounting the purpose of art in the corner to one of a lesser mental prowess. I am the white horse from which hell will surely follow. I am invited.
